Follow your dreams...to Paris

In case you had a doubt: I just LOVE the Eiffel tower stamp from plate #6. I also managed to ask Lynette for this set with sentiments in my DT package. I think it's a brilliant set! I haven't seen sentiments like this anywhere else. You get so many different ones for a very low price, especially with the "2 for 1" deal now. They are perfect for those square 6" x 6" cards. That's the size of my card below.

I stamped my image with VersaMark ink and rubbed different chalks on it. Then I edged it with a gold pen and layered on a red panel. I stamped the sentiment directly on a red card with VersaMark and sprinkled gold embossing powder on top. The reason I used VersaMark and not a gold pad is because in case it gets wrong it doesn't show. I can just heat the ink (so it dries) and stamp again. That way the embossing powder doesn't get stuck to the first stamping.

It's such a simple yet elegant card. I love this stamp and think it's sooo versatile. I have some more ideas for it, but I'll try to use some other stamp next week, lol. Hope you've enjoyed it :)

Mini Card Gift Set

Here's a sweet little project that your friends and family will love! I give these cute sets of cards to my family all the time. It's an adorable set of mini size cards in a cute decorated package.

Some great ways I have seen these little cards used: as a to/from card with a gift; placed in a family member's lunch box for little daytime surprise; as a love note on some one's desk or dresser; as a little pick-me-up for a stressed out co-worker; as a treat to a special student or good worker. Possibilities could be endless for these adorable little treats!
There's 2 basic components that you have to make, the holder and the mini cards.
For the holder, you need a clear self-seal envelope. In a pinch, you could even use a plastic bag. Personally, I use the envelopes because I can permanently adhere the top to the clear envelope, leaving the part that opens available, so the recipient to take the cards in and out without damaging the holder. This also allows them to reuse the holder later when all the cards are gone.
The size of the holder is based on the size of the clear cut envelope. In my sample, the clear envelope is 4.5x6"; I cut my card stock to be 6" wide (to match the envie) and 6" tall. I then fold the card stock in half. I now have a 3"x6" card. I decorated the top of holder using Hayden of the Gum Drop gang from Plate #8. Once completed, I lined the top and bottom edges of the cardstock with glue dots and placed the clear envie inside, ensuring that it is mounted straight.
Part 2 is creating mini size cards that will fit in the holder. Many companies sell mini size cards and matching envelopes. One source for these is the party section at your local store where they sell placecards for the table. People use as namecards on their dinner tables for a party, and these work wonderfully as mini cards. Of course it's also super easy to cut your own cardstock and create your own.

Take each little card and decorate it with fun embellishments. You can also use just part of a stamp or image. The cards shown above use images from Plates 7-10; Other items used: Prima flowers, Bazzill cardstock, Micro Mini Buttons, DCWV decorative paper, ColorBox Chalk ink pads.
Cute Variations: once you start making these cute sets, try to do a set around a theme such as Valentines, Birthdays or Halloween! Before you adhere the clear envelope, add a beautiful ribbon or fibers inside the the cardstock. One you have sealed off the project, you can now tie these ribbons into a bow creating a fun handle.
Happy Friday all!

Connie-Batty Boo!

When I got this NEW plate of Halloween images (Halloween Sheet #1) I could just see some of them jumping to scare you from a spider web.
First I ran a piece of silver metallic cardstock through the Cuttlebug using embossing folder "Spider Web". I then rubbed a little black ink over the raised portions. I trimmed this and layered over a black panel, then an orange panel and then onto the grey base. My scanner wants to glare at me from the silver though.
I brushed some Aleene's Tacky Glue on one corner and added Polar White Flower Soft, hoping to imitate a cloud and bring out the little grey bat (also from this Halloween sheet). A popped up rubber spider from my dime store & the cutest little bat I ever saw "floating" on the Flower Soft aka clouds and my scene is done. I added a small piece of black, then orange and then white on which I stamped Boo!
If you look really closely at the Sweet Pea word Boo! you can see 2 teeny spiders hanging from the O's. Just too cute!! Don't they match my "dime store" spider in the web just perfectly?
This plate of Halloween images is HOT! so be sure to check them out by clicking HERE

Connie-Just Hayden! Just A Note

I just had to play with my new Cuttlebug embossing folder today and Hayden fit right in so here she is again.

Supplies:
Hayden from Plate #8 of Sweet Pea Stamps (that Gum Drop Gang!)
Inks: Black Memento by Tsukineko, Beach Ball yellow by Ranger, SU markers
Cuttlebug Embossing Folder "Owl Flourish"
Dimensional tape
paper flowers
glittery brad from Oriental Trading
Corner rounder by SU
Dimensional Magic

I ran some blue paper thru the Cuttlebug & layered over the yellow card base (A2 size)
I stamped Hayden, colored her and trimmed to fit blue paper, rounding one corner
I inked parts of verses from plate 8 with yellow & black inks & stamped on flowers for interest
before running a brad thru and adhering them over one of Hayden's flowers.
*TIP I added some bits of dimensional tape beneath flowers so brad would not draw them down fully for more dimension
I also curled the petals for even more dimension!
Added some Dimensional Magic to centers of flowers for oomph
Stamped verse and layered onto yellow for frame

The embossing folder has an owl but I only wanted the curly corner so I covered the bird up!

Enjoy those flowers while you can. The leaves on our trees are beginning to turn color ever so slightly, but turning all the same....

It's a banner day!

I got the idea of making a banner when I was browsing some websites a few months ago. This will be given to my niece Alexa for her birthday; she can hang this in her room. I used images from Sweet Pea Stamps - plates 8, 9, and 10. Here's how it was done.....
  • Cut 3 lime green and 2 bright pink cardstock triangles 3 1/2 x 4", and cut 2 lime green and 3 bright pink triangles 4 1/4 x 5 1/2". Then trim long sides with decorative edge scissors.
  • Using lime green and bright pink markers, color the decorative edges.
  • Attach each small lime green triangle to a larger bright pink, and each small bright pink triangle to a larger lime green using double sided tape.
  • I used my cuttlebug and alphabet die cuts to punch the letters for Alexa's name; apply each letter to the tip of each flag.
  • I stamped the 5 Sweet Pea images using black India ink onto white cardstock.
  • I colored the images using colored pencil, gamsol and a blending stump.
  • Cut out the images and attach one to each flag above letter using double sided tape.
  • Using glue dots, attach decorative flower trim across tops of flags leaving extra trim at each end.
TA DAA!!!! It's really easy and what little girl wouldn't love to hang this in her room??
Try this or some of the other great ideas that we've been posting to the Sweet Pea blog and show us your results!!!
Have fun.... Chrissy

TAG..... You're it!

Why not create some cute tags????
Using the 2 little girl images from Sweet Pea plate #9 and some colored cardstock, I did just that. These can be used to accompany a gift, or attach them to the front of a greeting card as the focal point.
I have 3 young nieces who will love to receive these along with their birthday gifts this fall.
Have fun... Chrissy

For all 4 tags:
  • Stamp Sweet Pea little girl image with black India ink
  • Color some areas with glitter gel pens
  • Color other areas with glitter glue
  • Using a black gel pen, draw a series of dots and dashes around the edges of the tags
  • Apply glitter glue to dots around the edges of tags
  • Select fibers and ribbons that coordinate with paper and slip through the tag hole
  • If desired, string colored beads on ribbons and fibers
For Red tag:
  • Punch hole in center of red puffy fabric heart and attach gold heart shaped brad
  • Attach fabric heart to tag using glue dot
For Yellow tag:
  • Select 2 fabric flowers of varying size, insert colored brad through center and attach to tag
For Orange tag:
  • Punch hole for balloon shaped brad
  • With Xacto knife cut small slit along the little girls dress
  • Slip piece of fiber or yarn through slit along dress and through hole for balloon brad
  • Place balloon brad in hole, wrap fiber around several times and press the brad open to hold fiber
For Blue tag:
  • Apply gold Krylon around all sides of word bead
  • String gold wire through holes in word bead and curl ends
  • Attach to tag using glue dots

Which witch?

I've made this card using the girl from the latest stamp sheet from Sweet Pea Stamps, the Halloween sheet:

This card almost made itself. I just had these two Halloween papers. It suited the stamp perfectly since one of the texts were: cute little witches. Perfect! We don't really send cards to each other on Halloween here in Sweden so I don't buy many of those papers. I had a hunch earlier this year though that I might want to make a Halloween card or two. I'm glad I was right! I coloured the image yesterday before going to bed and put it together today in maybe 1 hour (that's fast in my book ;).

I used my promarkers again to colour the girl: ivory, lilac, pumpkin, warm grey2 and lime green. I embossed the orange panel with one of my Cuttlebug folders. It's supposed to be branches of some sort, but I think it might pass as spiderweb. Now I regret not buying that pumpkin embossing folder earlier...Grrr...The green panel is bling cardstock that I tore instead of cutting to give it an extra spooky feeling :).

Vintage bookmark

One of my absolute favorite stamp sheets from Sweet Pea Stamps is the Paris - plate 6 (that is on sale by the way for only $5.63.)
I've been wanting to play with it ever since I got them last week and I finally felt creative enough to do something with it.

I decided to make a tag/bookmark - getting inspired by Tim Holtz's Christmas tags. I finally got to use my alcohol inks that I bought ages ago. I think I have the wrong tools for them and that's why they haven't been working properly. The felt I have is too thin and the paper too porous.

I started by cutting out a piece of shrink plastic in my cuttlebug. I used one of my big tags. After that I inked the big Paris stamp with black staz-on ink, right side up I put on the shrink plastic and rubbed a little to get ink all over the tag. After the ink dried I turned it over and on the BACKSIDE I inked it with alcohol inks. I used butterscotch, cranberry and eggplant. Then I heated it so it shrunk and after it cooled down I coloured the edges with a gold pen.

The big tag is coloured using the same inks, blotted around at random. After I coloured it I stamped the big Paris stamp over it with staz-on ink and edged with the gold pen. Finally I found a coordinating fiber and attached the small tag to the big one. Voilá - we have a fabulous bookmark!

I hope you liked what I did today. I think even T!m would've been proud :)

It's hip to be Square!

Here's a cute 6" square card using Hayden of the Gum Drop Gang from Plate #8. The quote reads "All the flowers of all the tomorrows are in the seeds of today -Indian Proverb" Oh how true that is. Wherever we go we are planting seeds everywhere to produce flowers for tomorrow. I love to think that the cards I make plant seeds (ideas, thoughts, love) in people that flourish later.

This card started with a nice square card that was off white in color. I stamped the Hayden image using a VersaFine ink pad and allowed it to dry. I used Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils and a blender pen to add the coloring. I mounted the image on a nice yellow cardstock and rounded the corners.

I stamped the saying on white cardstock and colored the edges with my ColorBox Chalk ink pad. I stapled ribbons to the edges and trimmed them to matching lengths. I then mounted the image and the saying to the card with 1/8" pop dots. I used the same ColorBox Chalk pad to color the edges of the card and finished it off by adding colored skittles (clear acrylic pebbles) to the card with glue dots.

Project Materials:
Stamps (Plate #8 Gumdrop Gang from Sweet Pea Stamps); Colors (Derwent Inktense, Copic Marker E00); Ink pads (VersaFine Black, ColorBox Chalk Yellow Ochre); Skittles (dyed in yellow); Adhesives (1/8" thickness pop dots, glue dots); Tools (Corner Rounds, Stapler with yellow staples, Blender Pen);
Happy Friday All!

Beautiful in Blue

Hello and Happy Friday! Here's a beautiful blue card featuring the dress stamp from Plate #7. The "Let's Celebrate" sentiment is on Plate #9. Makes me want to go put on a fancy dress and go out. This card would be good for any celebration occasion. I love all the shades of blue working together on the same card.

Materials: Blue Mica card stock, handmade in India papers silver/blue, 2 shades of brads silver/blue, white cardstock, Colorbox Blue Iris chalk ink pad, Versafine black ink pad; Derwent Inktense pencils, blender pen, paper trimmer.
Steps:
1)Stamp the dress from Plate #7 onto the white card stock using a black Versafine ink pad. Set aside and allow this to dry well.
2) Stamp the sentiment from Plate #9 onto white card stock using blue iris chalk ink.
3) Trim the handmade paper to fit onto the blue mica card, leaving approx a 1/4" border all the way around. You can use use tape or glue to adhere the paper down to the cardstock or you can rely on the brads to hold the paper down.
4) Select three complimentary shades of blue watercolor pencils from Derwent--one light, medium, and dark.
5) Once the Versamark ink has completely dried, take the dress image and color in the light shade of blue; then use the medium shade of blue and lightly color the areas you want to shade. In this case, I shaded the waistline and the bottom, and very gently on the edge and dress seams.
6) Starting in the lightest area, use your blender pen to color the watercolor pencil. Allow the image to dry.
7) Now take a very dark color of blue and color ON TOP of the already colored image. Do so very lightly and carefully as you can not get rid of the color once you have added it.
8) Take the blender and very gently blend the darkest color on top of the other colors. If you look at the dress image, you can see that there are three shades of blue showing (esp. if you look at the skirt area).
9) Once the watercoloring is dried, take a watercolor crayon in grey and outline the entire image. Then use your blender pen to color the image. It's hard to see in the photo, but adding this outline to your image really makes it "pop" off the paper. Good colors for outlining are greys and light blues.
10) Mount an additional sheet of dark blue handmade paper on top of the embossed silver paper.
11. Trim the image and the "Let's Celebrate" sentiment to the same width and mount them on top of your card.
Watercoloring your stamped images is a fun artistic way to learn about shades of colors and how to make your images seem more dimensional.
Cheers!
Holley

Connie-Love Is Blind

But not so blind to miss this lovely dress! I made this card using an image from Plate #7, which is FULL of gorgeous images!

I layered everything with a black edging and sponged ColorBox Chalk "Olive Pastel" ink around edges of focal image. I stamped the dress once on white cardstock and again on some designer paper by Basic Grey "Lily Kate" and cut out the DP dress portion & layered that over my plain white image. "Paper Piecing" is what this technique is called.
I used the same Basic Grey paper as a background to match the dress and bring it all together. Added a small blue flower by Jolee's to finish it off.

I just realized that I did this without any coloring at all.....

If you want to see those lovely images on this plate just click HERE

Connie-Relax...Enjoy

Diamonds....this card has lots of them! The main image is from Sweet Pea Stamps plate #5 (full of summertime fun).

I used a purple base (A2 size) on which I layered a black panel slightly smaller. I ran a pink panel (smaller yet) through the Cuttlebug using the "Diamonds In The Rough" embossing folder after stamping the saying with black Tuxedo Memento ink. I then ran a VersaColor "Misty Mauve" inkpad lightly over the top to catch the embossed diamonds for contrast.

I stamped the diamond image with black dye ink and colored with Copic markers. Added 2 tiny gold eyelets on each side & ran some kinky gold fibers through them, adhering the fibers behind the panel before attaching it over the black mat.

Other supplies: fibers by On The Surface "Gilt Edge", dimensional tape, eyelets by Eyelets Etc.

Be sure to check out the fantastic SALE at Sweet Pea Stamps of which this plate is included!

Altered Notebook by Chrissy

There are lots of great back to school items out there.... why not alter a few??
I took a 3x5" notebook and decided to alter the cover. I did unwind the wire from the notebook to make working on the cover easier.
First I cut a piece of glossy cardstock to fit the cover. I stamped a background image with Versamark, used a heat gun to dry, and applied 3 colors of alcohol ink using an alcohol ink applicator. I wanted to get some texture, or the look of water behind the mermaid.
Using permanent black ink, I stamped the mermaid in the center, the shells in the lower left corner, and 'attitude' at the top of the glossy cardstock piece.
Then I attached the glossy to the notebook cover using double sided tape. I punched holes through the cover using the existing holes as a guide. Then I rewound the wire through the entire notebook.
I did apply diamond glaze to the shells worn by the mermaid, but it is difficult to see in the photo.
Maybe some glitter would add a little pizazz to it!
I gathered a few different types of fibers and strung them through the wire binding, attaching the glass fish bead to the end of one of the fibers.
I used only 3 of the Sweet Pea images from plate #3. Go check it out, there are some great verses on that plate!

Materials and supplies used:
- a 3 x 5" spiral bound notebook
- a piece of glossy cardstock cut to fit cover of notebook
- background stamp
- alcohol inks and applicator
- Versamark
- black permanent ink
- various fibers
- glass fish bead
- double sided tape
- heat gun
- hole punch
- mermaid, shells, and 'attitude' stamp from plate #3
- Diamond Glaze

Butterfly Thank You

I created this card for a black and white swap and got to use my new stamps from Sweet Pea Stamps. I love this Butterfly Thank You. It turned out even better than I had hoped!!!

I embossed the butterfly image in white on black card stock, cut it out and mounted it on white. The frame that is part of the image gives it the look of double matting even though it isn't.
I created my own patterned background by using the Thank You word stamp that was part of the full plate #2. I also stamped the word on white card stock, trimmed and mounted on black. I ran some additional card stock through a Cuttlebug embossing folder and distressed with white ink. I used a border punch on the top layer of the card and layered some black card stock underneath it on the inside of the card. I put it all together with the addition of some black ribbon with white stitching I had on hand and a couple of punched butterflies. - Alex

Cheer up!

Here's is a really cheerful card from the Sweet Pea Pals sheet. I knew as soon as I saw these girls that I wanted to make a bright and happy card. I originally wanted it to be a birthday card, but when seeing the "cheer up!" text from plate #10 I knew I had to use it instead.

I have used my oval nestabilities and promarkers to colour the girl.

Colours used:
saffron, petrol blue, lime green, orange and berry red. Yellow is from my old pantone collection although promarker's "canary" is very similar. Flowers and buttons from my huge stash ;) and paper from DCWV.
